Endocrinology Fellowship

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Endocrinology fellowship program at SIU School of Medicine. Our two-year program offers extensive training in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, weight management and clinical nutrition.

Fellows receive comprehensive clinical and didactic instruction, including a rigorous core curriculum with grand rounds, clinical case presentations, interdisciplinary conferences, and teaching opportunities. Through scholarly research and quality improvement projects, fellows develop skills in critical literature review, evidence-based decision-making, resource management, and foundational administrative and research skills tailored to their interests and career goals.

Our faculty includes nationally recognized leaders in clinical endocrinology. Along with our dedicated staff, they create a collaborative environment that welcomes the input of our fellows to provide a continuously evolving and enriching fellowship experience. Endocrine fellows at SIU School of Medicine are active participants and partners in fostering academic excellence and outstanding patient care.

Program goals

  • Prepare fellows to care for patients suffering from endocrine or metabolic disease, including treating patients for acute and chronic distress resulting from their disease.
  • Provide opportunities for fellows to encounter a wide range of patients and to diagnose and treat conditions in all areas of endocrinology.
  • Provide a diverse experience through rotations in related areas, ensuring fellows have training in all of the diagnostic procedures and methods used in endocrinology
  • Provide fellows elective and selective clinical experiences to broaden and expand their clinical practice scope and perspectives.
  • Introduce fellows to principles of clinical and bench research, equipping them to analyze literature and data, formulate investigative protocols, and collect data in a scientific, organized manner.
  • Provide fellows with a solid foundation in systems and means for maintaining self-education, thus preparing fellows to continue their education throughout their lives.
  • Prepare fellows for endocrinology board examination and certification and successful future clinical practice.
